A large number of senior Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members have decided to leave the party after being dejected at the division in the party.

SLFP member and former minister Felix Perera said that if the party is to rebuilt, President Maithripala Sirisena, former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa and Chandrika Kumaratunga must take steps to unite the party by reaching a compromise. He said what happens now is they raise allegations against each other causing committed SLFP supporters to leave the party.

Former minister and former SLFP deputy secretary Piyasena Gamage said that unless the former presidents came to a consensus to immediately solve the present conflicts in the party, the SLFP will lose the forthcoming elections. He also said that he will get away from politics forever if there is no immediate solution for the party conflict.

Another SLFPer who vowed to resign from politics in this regard is former senior minister and deputy chairman Milroy Perera who said he is now utterly frustrated in what is happening in the party….
