The Sri Lanka Police Department is to officially raise objections with the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) over the controversial actions of the Gangodawila Magistrate in the case involving the possession of an elephant using allegedly forged documents by Additional Magistrate of Colombo, Thilina Gamage.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is to lodge the complaint with the JSC through the Police Department.

Gangodawila Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne recently granted bail to Gamage when the case filed by the CID against the latter on the alleged possession of a wild elephant using forged documents was taken up for hearing.

According to legal sources, in the event an individual possesses an elephant using forged documents it becomes a case under the misuse of public property.

The Sunday Leader learns that the CID in its investigations had found evidence to prove that Gamage had held the elephant using legally invalid documents.
