Barack Obama prepares to endorse Hillary Clinton and attack Donald Trump on campaign trail

By David Lawler - Mon Jun 06, 5:18 pm

Mr Obama remains extremely popular with Democrats, and increasingly with the country as a whole, but he has disappointed some on the left-wing of the party – Mr Sanders’s natural constituency.

Still, in Mr Obama and her husband Bill Clinton, Mrs Clinton will have two broadly popular former presidents campaigning on her behalf between now and November.

Both living Republican presidents, George HW and George W Bush, have declined to endorse Mr Trump, who had a prolonged battle with Jeb Bush during the Republican primaries.

Tuesday’s primary elections will come eight years to the day that Mrs Clinton dropped out of the 2008 race and endorsed Mr Obama.
