KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has arrested 19 individuals suspected of trafficking Sri Lankan nationals with faked Malaysian passports for transport to Geneva, Switzerland.

The arrests were conducted in an operation over the span of four weeks from 12 April to 6 May in the Klang Valley, according to a statement by PDRM today.

The individuals arrested include six Malaysians (two immigration officers, one agent and three runners), ten Sri Lankans (two facilitators, three agents, and five migrants), and three Indian agents.

They have been arrested under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) and are being investigated under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM).

Investigations revealed that the syndicate involved would buy original passports at prices of RM1,000 to RM2,500 each from local Indians whose faces look like those of Sri Lankan migrants….
